About
Dr Mehrdad Asgari is a chemical engineer and materials scientist working at the interface of chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, and data-driven discovery.
He is one of the Directors of Studies at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, where he oversees the academic programme in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, and he also contributes to the broader academic and pastoral landscape of the College as a Tutor.
Alongside his College role, his research and academic initiatives focus on combining scientific interpretability, computational analysis, and practical relevance in the study of complex chemical and materials systems.
His areas of expertise include:
- AI and data-driven methods for chemistry
- AI-enabled approaches for molecular and materials discovery, including chemistry problems such as dye development
- Process modelling for adsorption and separation applications
- Catalysis
- Structure–property relationships
- Porous materials and metal–organic frameworks
- Data-driven modelling in chemical engineering and materials science
- Scientific computing for chemistry and engineering problems
His work is motivated by a strong interest in building bridges between rigorous academic research and practically meaningful problems relevant to both academia and industry.
